The music video for “I Luh Ya Papi” featuring French Montana was directed by Jessy Terrero and filmed in Miami, Florida. Released in March 2014, the video takes a playful, comedic approach to challenging the objectification of women in hip-hop music videos by reversing the traditional gender roles. It opens with Lopez and two female friends discussing ideas for her next video with a record label executive, who suggests settings such as a water park or zoo. Frustrated by the predictable concepts, the women imagine a video in which men are treated the same way women are often portrayed in rap videos. Their fantasy begins with Lopez walking through a luxurious mansion filled with shirtless and scantily clad men, wearing a tracksuit inspired by her iconic green Versace jungle dress from 2000. Other scenes show Lopez and her friends dancing in a driveway while topless men wash cars, photographing the men beside a swimming pool and being served by them. Lopez later appears in an all-white outfit aboard a luxury yacht, surrounded by muscular men in swimwear, before joining French Montana and her friends in a studio-lit setting to sing, rap and dance. Throughout the video, Lopez embraces the role traditionally reserved for male rappers, surrounded by luxury, beautiful people and extravagant settings. The concept was designed to turn the usual conventions of hip-hop videos on their head, with Lopez explaining that the intention was to have fun while making audiences recognise the double standards often present in the genre. The result is a tongue-in-cheek visual that combines glamour, humour and sensual choreography while celebrating Lopez’s confidence and star power.
