The music video for Jennifer Lopez’s “Do It Well” was directed by David LaChapelle and filmed in Los Angeles in August 2007. The video opens with Lopez walking down the street when she receives a message on her PDA containing an SOS from a young boy who has been captured and forced to work in the kitchen of a nightclub on Union Street. Determined to rescue him, Lopez enters the club and makes her way through its crowded, provocative surroundings, confronting the doormen and questioning the people inside to discover the boy’s whereabouts. Her search quickly turns into an action-packed mission, with Lopez using punches and slaps to get answers from those who stand in her way. Interspersed throughout the storyline are performance scenes featuring Lopez in a striking red dress, showcasing her dance skills during the song’s energetic breakdown. Eventually, she locates the boy and leads him towards the exit, where another doorman attempts to stop them. Lopez responds by kicking him over the banister before escaping with the child. Combining dramatic action, bold visuals, and high-energy choreography, the video presents Lopez as a fearless heroine determined to save someone in danger. It premiered on MTV’s TRL on September 17, 2007, followed by BET’s 106 & Park two days later, and subsequently climbed the video countdown charts on both MTV and VH1.
