Jennifer Lopez stars as Ingrid Luna, Aurora and the Spider Woman in this musical drama about the power of imagination, cinema and human connection.
Set in Argentina in 1983, during the country’s military dictatorship, the film follows Valentín, a political prisoner, and Molina, a window dresser imprisoned for public indecency, who are forced to share a cramped prison cell. The two men initially struggle to understand one another, as their political beliefs, personal experiences and approaches to life differ considerably. To escape the bleak reality of their confinement, Molina recounts the story of his favourite Hollywood musical, starring the glamorous screen diva Ingrid Luna. Through his vivid storytelling, the fantasy world of the film unfolds, introducing Aurora, a captivating performer who embodies the mysterious Spider Woman.
As the prisoners become increasingly involved in the imagined musical, their conversations develop into a deeper exploration of identity, sacrifice, loyalty and love. The contrast between the harshness of imprisonment and the dazzling theatrical sequences highlights how art can provide comfort and hope in the most oppressive circumstances. Jennifer Lopez brings glamour, theatricality and emotional intensity to the film’s fantastical musical sequences, portraying characters whose stories become intertwined with the prisoners’ own emotional journeys.
Based on Manuel Puig’s novel and the acclaimed Broadway musical, the film blends political drama, romance and spectacular musical storytelling
