“Ain’t It Funny” is a Latin-inspired pop song from Jennifer Lopez’s second studio album, J.Lo (2001). Co-written by Jennifer and Cory Rooney, the track was originally created for her romantic comedy The Wedding Planner, in which J.Lo starred alongside Matthew McConaughey. However, director Adam Shankman felt its strong Latin influences were not quite right for the film, so the song found its home on her album instead.
Inspired by the movie’s romantic storyline, “Ain’t It Funny” explores the unexpected twists of love and those feelings that simply refuse to disappear, even when you try to move on. Its lively Latin rhythms, percussion and catchy melody perfectly complement Jennifer’s signature pop sound.
The song was first released in Japan in June 2001 before becoming the fourth and final single from J.Lo in the United States that December. Jennifer also appeared in a series of Japanese Subaru Legacy television commercials featuring the track. Not to be confused with the 2002 hit “Ain’t It Funny (Murder Remix)” featuring Ja Rule, this original version captures the romantic, Latin-pop charm of the J.Lo era.
