Bobby Cooper is a drifter whose journey through the American Southwest is interrupted when his car breaks down in the isolated town of Superior, Arizona. Hoping to repair his vehicle and continue travelling, he discovers that the town is filled with unpredictable residents, simmering resentments and dangerous secrets. Among them is Grace McKenna, a beautiful and troubled woman trapped in a difficult marriage to an older, controlling husband. Grace approaches Bobby with a proposition that promises to free her from her circumstances, drawing him into a complicated web of deception and violence. Although Bobby initially wants nothing more than to leave town, his financial problems and attraction to Grace make it increasingly difficult to walk away.
As he becomes involved with the couple, he discovers that almost everyone he encounters has a hidden agenda. The town’s atmosphere grows increasingly hostile, and Bobby finds himself caught in a series of decisions that place his life in jeopardy. Grace’s apparent vulnerability conceals a more complicated personality, and Bobby gradually realises that he may have underestimated the danger surrounding him.
The film unfolds as a dark neo-noir thriller in which greed, desperation and desire drive characters towards increasingly destructive choices. Through its unpredictable encounters and morally compromised relationships, U Turn portrays a world where escape is rarely straightforward and where the desire for a better life can lead people into circumstances far worse than those they initially sought to leave.
