Jennifer Lopez stars as a highly trained military operative and assassin known simply as the Mother, a woman whose dangerous past forces her to make the heartbreaking decision to give up the daughter she loves. After becoming involved with dangerous arms dealers and discovering their criminal activities, she cooperates with federal authorities. When her identity and pregnancy are exposed, she realises that remaining with her child would put the baby in constant danger.
She therefore arranges for her daughter, Zoe, to be raised by another family, believing that distance will offer the best protection. Years later, the Mother’s carefully maintained isolation is shattered when the criminals she once escaped return and Zoe becomes a target. Determined to save her daughter, she emerges from hiding and launches a relentless effort to keep her safe. The reunion is complicated by Zoe’s unfamiliarity with her biological mother and the Mother’s struggle to balance her protective instincts with the need to respect her daughter’s independence.
As the pair travel through dangerous environments, the Mother teaches Zoe survival skills while confronting enemies who possess the resources and determination to destroy them both. Their journey becomes a test of trust, as Zoe gradually discovers the extraordinary circumstances surrounding her mother’s absence. Beneath its intense action sequences, the film explores maternal sacrifice, guilt and the painful consequences of choosing protection over presence.
The Mother must ultimately confront the past she tried to escape and decide how far she is willing to go to give her daughter a future free from violence.
