Claire Peterson is a high-school teacher attempting to rebuild her life after separating from her unfaithful husband. While managing her professional responsibilities and raising her teenage son, she finds herself emotionally vulnerable and uncertain about her future.
When a young man named Noah moves in next door, she initially sees him as a charming neighbour who offers an unexpected source of attention and excitement. Noah develops a close relationship with Claire’s son, helping him with schoolwork and gaining the family’s trust. During a moment of loneliness, Claire makes the impulsive decision to become romantically involved with Noah. What she believes will be a brief encounter soon becomes a source of escalating danger when Noah refuses to accept that their relationship has ended.
His fascination with Claire turns into an obsessive determination to control her life, and he begins manipulating situations to keep himself close to her. Claire struggles to protect her family while maintaining her reputation and professional standing. As Noah’s behaviour becomes increasingly threatening, she discovers that the young man she thought she understood has concealed a far more disturbing personality. Her attempts to distance herself from him only intensify the conflict, placing her son and the people around her at risk.
The film transforms an ordinary suburban setting into a psychological battleground where attraction gives way to fear. The Boy Next Door explores impulsive decisions, obsession, manipulation and the consequences of underestimating someone whose intentions remain hidden beneath a seemingly innocent exterior.
