Larry Gigli is a small-time criminal tasked with carrying out an assignment for a powerful organised-crime figure. His job involves kidnapping Brian, the intellectually disabled younger brother of a federal prosecutor, in an attempt to influence an important legal situation. Gigli expects the operation to be straightforward, but complications arise when Ricki, a confident and unconventional woman, is assigned to supervise him.
Ricki’s presence immediately challenges Gigli’s assumptions about his role and his ability to manage the situation. As the two criminals work together, their contrasting personalities lead to frequent arguments and awkward encounters. Gigli attempts to demonstrate that he is capable of handling the assignment, while Ricki’s directness and independence expose his insecurities. Despite their disagreements, an unexpected attraction develops between them, complicating their professional arrangement and forcing them to confront feelings neither anticipated.
Meanwhile, the kidnapping becomes increasingly difficult to control, and the consequences of their actions begin to threaten their safety. Gigli must decide whether to follow orders blindly or take responsibility for the person whose freedom he has compromised.
The story mixes crime, dark comedy and romance, using the unlikely partnership between its central characters to examine ego, vulnerability and the difficulty of understanding another person’s perspective. As their situation deteriorates, the characters discover that their personal choices carry consequences beyond the immediate demands of their criminal assignment.
